Our School Canteen caters for all of our students and staff members and our kitchen team offer a wide range of food for all dietary requirements.


At lunchtime there is a choice of main courses, one of which being a vegetarian option and a Halal option too. Allergies are being considered. Parents are provided with a menu in advance of each week and are able to select the food they would like their children to be served each day.


Healthy eating is encouraged and the pupils also learn to eat as independently as possible.

The library area is a space where children can come to read and learn in a comfortable environment.


The experience of visiting the library can be a lasting one for the children. From the colourful pages, to the cuddly toys and the wonderful escapism of a creative story. The whole experience helps transport the children into another world.


The library has books for all reading levels, including wordless picture books and audiobooks and is an ideal place to learn 'library etiquette' and public behavior in general. All the diffrent materials, vibrant colours and even the smell of print on paper can inspire creativity and give our students an area they can relax in and really look forward to visiting.

Multitouch experience: Two users can simultaneously write, perform mouse functions, erase, and manipulate and move objects on the interactive whiteboard surface.


Object awareness: The screen uses DViT (Digital Vision Touch) technology to identify when a user switches between a finger, pen and eraser. A user can also write with a pen, erase with a palm and move objects with a finger, without having to press buttons, access on-screen menus or replace tools in the Pen Tray, using simple, intuitive hand and finger gestures to toss, rotate or zoom in on objects and interact within SMART Notebook software.


SMART Notebook software: SMART Notebook sets the standard for creating, delivering and managing interactive lessons within a single application. It puts all of the instructional materials at our fingertips and allows us to save any notes or content that is written during the lesson to share with students later on. A powerful and easy-to-use application, SMART Notebook software enables us to readily deliver interactive lessons that keep our students engaged and interested


Multiuser Pen Tray: Pick up one of the pens or the eraser and the Pen Tray automatically detects which tool you've selected. Buttons on the Pen Tray select the colour and activate the On-Screen Keyboard, right-click and help functions.


Modular design: The Pen Tray includes two wings on the side that allow you to add accessories, such as SMART projector controls


Lockable pen option: When we hold down a pen colour button on the Pen Tray until the light flashes then the lockable pen option will lock the interactive whiteboard into pen mode, so you can use any device and it will act as a pen. Early years education students and students with additional learning needs can use objects, such as tennis balls, to write on the surface


SMART Ink: Smart Ink smoothes out the appearance of the digital ink, which improves the legibility of the handwriting as we write over applications, websites and videos. The ink becomes an object which can moved and manipulate

The toy shed stores all the things used to have fun in the outdoor classroom areas and they help to keep the outdoor yards nice and tidy.


There are plenty toys stored in the shed, all of which can be used with the other equipment out in the yard.


There are tools to garden with, toys to use with the water troughs and other general toys which are safe in the outdoor setting.


Having a toy shed also helps pupils to be more organised, tidy and it also gives them a positive mindset. There is also the safety aspect, having the toys stored safely is essential to keeping people safe.

UV and sensory lights are ideal for helping our students to develop their visual processing, improve their tracking and develop their hand-eye co-ordination.


Our sensory room is designed to be entertaining, immersive and relaxing for our students. Many of the objects in the sensory room reflect UV lighting which the children love playing with.


Studies have shown that humans, in general, can have their mood influnced by changes in lighting, this is especially prominent with our pupils. Lights with mellow colours, like blue, can help a child relax and become more creative and the vibrant colours enthral and excite the children.

POOL


There are many benefits of swimming. For our students it is a mix of exercise and relaxation in equal measures.


The pool has a hoist which is used to assist with pupils that have limited mobility and there is a lifeguard and assitance on hand at all times.

The sensory space is located in the softplay area and is used to entertain and calm pupils in a safe and comfortable environment.


Sensory areas have a number of benefits for children with a wide range of learning and behavoural dificulties. They help to develop the students visual, auditory and tactile processing, as well as fine and gross motor skills. Additionally the sensory room helps to calm and comfort the pupils, assisting them to self-regulate their behaviors, which in turn improves focus.

SOFTPLAY AREA


At Hatchside School we are extremely fortunate to have a fully equipped softplay area which is both safe and enjoyable for our pupils.


Soft play helps with engagement and increased communication and allows children to relax as they are in a closed-off and safe space. When a pupil is in a soft play area, all their senses are stimulated as the room is bright, colourful and most importantly, a fun space where a child can be free to explore.


The softplay area also has a ceiling track hoist support frame, sound system, projector and immersive lighting. It is a firm favourite with our pupils and a room essential to the development of our pupils’ fine and gross motor skills.

Our School Canteen caters for all of our students and staff members and our kitchen team offer a wide range of food for all dietary requirements.


At lunchtime there is a choice of main courses, one of which being a vegetarian option and a Halal option too. Allergies are being considered. Parents are provided with a menu in advance of each week and are able to select the food they would like their children to be served each day.


Healthy eating is encouraged and the pupils also learn to eat as independently as possible.

Ceiling Track Hoists provide advantages for both carers and users. Allowing challenging physical activities to be a part of everyday life.


As well as providing support to our students, a ceiling track hoist also benefits the teachers and support staff. A useful utility for the school, it makes the teachers’ job easier by supporting pupil access to teaching, allowing movement and activities in areas of the classroom which would otherwise not be accessible.


Besides this, a ceiling track hoist can also support teachers and support staff with other types of therapies and treatments. For instance, they can be a perfect solution for patients who suffer from disabilities where muscles can stiffen and cause discomfort. Using a hoist allows a teacher’s better access to their legs and joints and helps them exercise and can also help to relieve any discomfort they may have.

Welcome to the Virtual Tour for Hatchside School, part of Astrum MAT.


Hatchside School opened to pupils on Monday 26th April 2021 and joined Newbridge school, as part of the Astrum Multi Academy Trust. Hatchside School caters for pupils aged 2-7 years of age with a range of SEND and with a focus on Assessment and Early Intervention.


We are a highly respected Trust catering for pupils with a range of Severe and Complex Special Educational Needs across the London Borough of Redbridge and beyond.


We are forward thinking and our current school – which is an all through school with 2 campuses-Newbridge Lower School and Newbridge Upper School rated as outstanding for the past 10 years.


Our vision is to create a partnership of outstanding Special Schools to support the Special Needs Community in Redbridge and the surrounding area to offer excellent opportunities for pupils and their families.


Hatchside School will increase in size over the next 3 years, until it reaches its capacity of 64 pupils.

UV and sensory lights are ideal for helping our students to develop their visual processing, improve their tracking and develop their hand-eye co-ordination.


Our sensory room is designed to be entertaining, immersive and relaxing for our students. Many of the objects in the sensory room reflect UV lighting which the children love playing with.


Studies have shown that humans in general can have their mood influenced by changes in lighting, this is especially prominent with our pupils. Lights with mellow colours, like blue, can help a child relax and become more creative.

Welcome to the Virtual Tour for Hatchside School, part of Astrum MAT.


Hatchside School opened to pupils on Monday 26th April 2021 and joined Newbridge school, as part of the Astrum Multi Academy Trust. Hatchside School caters for pupils aged 2-7 years of age with a range of SEND and with a focus on Assessment and Early Intervention.


We are a highly respected Trust catering for pupils with a range of Severe and Complex Special Educational Needs across the London Borough of Redbridge and beyond.


We are forward thinking and our current school – which is an all through school with 2 campuses-Newbridge Lower School and Newbridge Upper School rated as outstanding for the past 10 years.


Our vision is to create a partnership of outstanding Special Schools to support the Special Needs Community in Redbridge and the surrounding area to offer excellent opportunities for pupils and their families.


Hatchside School will increase in size over the next 3 years, until it reaches its capacity of 64 pupils.

At Hatchside School we are extremely fortunate to have a fully equipped softplay area which is both safe and enjoyable for our pupils.


Soft play helps with engagement and increased communication and allows children to relax as they are in a closed-off and safe space. When a pupil is in a soft play area, all their senses are stimulated as the room is bright, colourful and most importantly, a fun space where a child can be free to explore.


The softplay area also has a ceiling track hoist support frame, sound system, projector and immersive lighting. It is a firm favourite with our pupils and a room essential to the development of our pupils’ fine and gross motor skills.

As well as providing support to our students, a ceiling track hoist also benefits the teachers and support staff. A useful utility for the school, it makes the teachers’ job easier by supporting pupil access to teaching, allowing movement and activities in areas of the classroom which would otherwise not be accessible.


Besides this, a ceiling track hoist can also support teachers and support staff with other types of therapies and treatments. For instance, they can be a perfect solution for patients who suffer from disabilities where muscles can stiffen and cause discomfort. Using a hoist allows a teacher’s better access to their legs and joints and helps them exercise and can also help to relieve any discomfort they may have.


Ceiling track hoists are vital to Hatchside School to help provide high quality care which is both safe and comfortable for people with disabilities.

Object awareness: The screen uses DViT (Digital Vision Touch) technology to identify when a user switches between a finger, pen and eraser. A user can also write with a pen, erase with a palm and move objects with a finger, without having to press buttons, access on-screen menus or replace tools in the Pen Tray, using simple, intuitive hand and finger gestures to toss, rotate or zoom in on objects and interact within SMART Notebook software.


SMART Notebook software: SMART Notebook sets the standard for creating, delivering and managing interactive lessons within a single application. Multiuser Pen Tray: Pick up one of the pens or the eraser and the Pen Tray automatically detects which tool you've selected. Buttons on the Pen Tray select the colour and activate the On-Screen Keyboard, right-click and help functions.


Modular design: The Pen Tray includes two wings on the side that allow you to add accessories, such as SMART projector controls


Lockable pen option: When we hold down a pen colour button on the Pen Tray until the light flashes then the lockable pen option will lock the interactive whiteboard into pen mode, so you can use any device and it will act as a pen. The library area is a space where children can come to read and learn in a comfortable environment.


The experience of visiting the library can be a lasting one for the children. From the colourful pages, to the cuddly toys and the wonderful escapism of a creative story. The whole experience helps transport the children into another world.


The library has books for all reading levels, including wordless picture books and audiobooks and is an ideal place to learn 'library etiquette' and public behavior in general. The Sensory Integration Circuit provides a daily opportunity for sensory modulation and assists them with learning.

Building Language Skills. Sensory circuits help support a breadth of language skills including building vocabulary and understanding. Taking turns, waiting, cooperation and having fun.

At Newbridge School the health and safety of our pupils is our primary concern and our team implement the planning and delivery of our health services to ensure it is tailored to each of their requirements.


The medical team are multi-skilled, registered nurses that work in partnership with parents and carers, education teams and social care providers to enable children to have a safe and comfortable environment to learn in.


The nursing team also provide advice and support to families helping to meet their children’s health care needs. The team are responsible for sign-posting to and referring to specialist services as necessary, sourcing relevant information, liaising with and when appropriate taking the Lead Professional role in conjunction with the family and other health care professionals.

Our Sensory Area is a extremely important area within our school for a number of reasons. It also happens to be one of the most loved by the pupils.



Our Sensory Area is an extremely important area within our school for a number of reasons. It also happens to be one of the most loved by the pupils.


Sensory areas have a number of benefits for children with a wide range of learning and associated behavioural challenges. They help to develop the students’ visual, auditory and tactile processing, as well as fine and gross motor skills. Additionally having sensory areas, supports in calming and comforting the pupils, assisting them to self-regulate their behaviours, which in turn improves wellbeing, focus and engagement in learning.

Mathematics is a key skill used by all of our pupils in their daily lives so is therefore at the forefront of our syllabus and is an essential part of the curriculum.


Mathematics is used to describe, analyse and understand our pupils’ environments. Whether it be the pleasure of solving a puzzle for the first time, discovering a solution to a problem or noticing hidden connections, mathematics helps develop our pupil’s awareness of how the world works.


At Hatchside School, mathematics is taught in a creative way using 'hands on' techniques which provide a visual and inclusive way to learn numeracy and encourage a pragmatic approach to problem solving areas of mathematics which would otherwise be challenging to our pupils.


Having the necessary tools and teaching materials is essential and our classrooms have everything required to assist with our pupils’ education making it as fun and inclusive as possible.

Our astroturf clad terrace play area is located on the first floor and is a natural suntrap loved by all the pupils.


This space is used for break times, one-on-one exercise and as a general exercise area for the school. There is a number of different items of equipment which can be set up in different configurations to create challenging and fun obstacle courses.


The equipment is set up to encourage movement, problem solving skills and the area, in general, gives the opportunity for the pupils to socialise with their peers.

The main playground is a great space, suitable for all the children. There are areas to relax, learn and be creative.



Playgrounds provide a safe place for children to exert their energy, have fun and interact with peers. They are also a valuable learning environment where children of all ages, and abilities, can develop their physical, social, emotional and cognitive skills. Play is an essential part of a child's development and something that they all enjoy.


There are swings and slides and green areas with elements of nature which provide our pupils with an exciting environment to help them learn and explore.
